ArcGIS Online Regional Data Hosting
What is Regional Data Hosting
Regional Data hosting refers to the region where your ArcGIS Online organization’s hosted data is stored. Many forms of analytics, including spatial analysis, raster functions, data pipelines and more are also run in the same region where you date is stored. Your organization’s Regional data hosting Is established at the time of the purchase of your ArcGIS Online organization.
Where is my data currently hosted?
The Regional Data hosting is defined at the initial purchase of the ArcGIS Online organization. If you have had your ArcGIS Online organization set up before the introduction of EU as an option for data hosting, it will be set to the United States. You can verify your Regional Data hosting on the 'organization' page of your ArcGIS Online organization.
Can I change my regional data hosting?
As a customer, you can move to EU Regional Data hosting. However, you cannot directly alter the Regional Data hosting for an existing ArcGIS Online organization. We can provide a new ArcGIS Online organization with Regional Data hosting set up in the EU. After you receive this new organization, you will have a set period to migrate your content, set up your users, and configure your organization-specific settings. This ensures a smooth transition for your users. Afterward, the previous ArcGIS Online organization will be removed.
Why would an organization want to change their regional data hosting?
For organizations based in Europe, choosing EU regional data hosting brings several key benefits. It helps align more closely with internal data governance policies and makes it easier to comply with regulations like GDPR. The Esri ISO/IEC 27001 certificate applies to ArcGIS Online with EU regional data hosting.
By keeping data within the EU, organizations simplify compliance and ensure consistent management and access to their data. They also gain from infrastructure that is physically closer to their users, which leads to better performance and reliability.
Ultimately, the decision rests with the end user, granting them the sovereignty to choose where their content is stored. This empowers organizations to determine for themselves the most suitable location for their data.
